Digital Health Expert and Synthetic Biologist Committed to Increasing Access to Healthcare for All

“My entire professional life has been about continuing to push for improved access to care. I started out in Synthetic Biology and was attracted to the field because of its promise to tap into the programmability of biology and the ability to create platforms for diagnostics and drugs. My move to digital health was an unexpected one, but excited by its promise of outsized impact for underserved communities.”

Valorant Health and Rural America

Valorant Health

Providing virtual care resources to over 67 million Americans living in rural and underserved areas

From Bench to Board:

Founding Valorant Health

Ahmed was motivated after having witnessed first-hand the profound impact that lack of healthcare access can have in underserved areas, and how it can affect the well-being and outcomes of the community. There is an unmet need for reliable healthcare resources for over 67 million Americans who can be helped with technology we have. He began putting together a team with unparalleled experience to go into a market segment that has been largely ignored despite the scalability of digital health.

Tackling the rural markets has its challenges, but also has the potential to bring care to those who need it. Disproportionately, technologies overlook the needs in these markets. Founding Valorant Health and starting with mental health Ahmed and his team are poised to make a massive impact on the lives of Veterans, military service members, and Indigenous Peoples.

The Promise of Programming Biology

Ahmed started in Synthetic Biology wanting to apply its promise of scaling and iterating for maximum impact in healthcare. He took his experiences to applications in diagnostics and early-stage drug discovery. He worked with Fortune 50 players to streamline the traditionally tedious tasks with a combination of data science and automation.

Ahmed was a co-founder at DNAWorks, a spinout of the University of Washington’s Molecular Engineering and Sciences department. He was part of a team dedicated to bringing cost-effective and highly programmable molecular diagnostic devices to developing countries.

He has also held meaningful roles at emerging players and market leaders in the SynBio market sectors to expedite the applications of early-stage drug discovery for a meaningful impact on healthcare.
